OptionsHouse Director of Education Dan Passarelli Speaks at Optionetics 2008 Conference
- Presents Seminar on Straddles and Strangles
CHICAGO, June 4, 2008 — OptionsHouse, Inc. ("OptionsHouse"), an online retail and institutional brokerage firm, today announced that Dan Passarelli, Director of Education, will speak at this year's Optionetics Annual Super-Investing Summit in Santa Clara, Calif.
Passarelli will present "Straddles and Strangles" June 7 at 8:30 am. He will explain this pair of option strategies, including how options traders can trade volatile stocks using these techniques.
"Straddles and strangles are commonly used when a trader believes a stock's price will move but is uncertain of the direction," Passarelli said. "With a long straddle, the trader will buy a call and a put at the same strike price with the same expiration. Profits grow the farther the stock price moves from the strike price in either direction."
A long "strangle" works much like a straddle, Passarelli said, with a trader buying an out-of-the-money call and an out-of-the-money put. The greater the price swing in the underlying stock, the greater the profits. This strategy is slightly different than a straddle, as the call and put strike prices are different.
Passarelli has more than 15 years of options experience gained as a trader at the Chicago Board Option Exchange (CBOE) and the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and educational instructor at the CBOE's Options Institute.
"I look forward to giving my presentation," Passarelli said. "Many traders are interested in these techniques right now given the volatility in the market."
Optionetics, which is hosting the event, is a leading options trading resource and investment education firm based out of Redwood City, Calif.
