Position Summary

The Application Development Manager will be responsible for the oversight and management of the Technology Development Organization.

Responsibilities Include

  • Lead teams engaged in development of OptionsHouse web platform.
  • Manage full software development lifecycle, i.e., design, development, testing, debugging, configuration, and documentation of applications.
  • Manage day to day progress and deliverables on projects.
  • Manage risk and scope of planned technology deliveries. Specifically, managing all project requests for the team and making recommendations for approval or alternate delivery dates and/or development approaches based on business and technical constraints. Working with other teams as needed for inputs and verification of recommendations.
  • Direct software system testing procedures, programming and documentation.
  • Manage relationships with business and technology peers.
  • Provide an escalation point for the development team.

Required Skills

Technical Skills

  • Excellent understanding of online software architectures.
  • Proficiency in development practices and methodologies, and the design, development and testing of complex, large-scale software projects.
  • Strong knowledge of web technologies, especially Java, web services and APIs as well as website architectures.
  • Proficiency in Web project management, QA processes and procedures, systems integration and technology consulting.
  • Experience and ability to conceptually understand and propose architectures for large web-based solutions of different sizes, as well as recognize the development impact.
  • Understanding of caching and other performance related measures.

Business Experience

  • 10 years of experience delivering software development projects using web-based technologies.
  • Excellent project management and technical skills required with at least 2 years of previous product delivery, project management of system integration experience in the Web / Java technology space as a prerequisite.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills are required. Must be service oriented and able to interact with a variety of partners, customers and internal staff. Strong interpersonal skills are required as this role will be the primary point of contact with internal customers.
  • Excellent group facilitation skills.
  • Must be a goal-oriented, motivated, independent thinker and team player that can manage development resources with imagination and a sense of humor.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • MBA or other business experience is a plus.
