Short expiration week ahead. Last trading day Thursday.

This week due to the Good Friday market holiday on Friday, April 18, 2014, traders have a shortened trading week. It is important for option traders to know the changes which occur when a holiday falls on a typical expiration Friday.

  1. The last trading day for regular April options will occur on Thursday, April 17, 2014, so expiring positions need to be monitored and closed before the 4 p.m. ET market close for equity options and before the 4:15 p.m. ET closing for ETFs and certain index options such as SPXPM and OEX.
  2. SPX, RUT and NDX options have a last trading day on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, and expire into the Special Quotation (SQ) calculated on the opening print of all the component stocks in the index on the morning of Thursday, April 17, 2014. These are cash settled index options.
  3. Physical settlement of assigned and exercised options into stock will occur as usual T+3 (business days) which will be Wednesday, April 23, 2014.

Additionally, Friday, April 18, 2014, OptionsHouse will be closed in observance of the market holiday.
